The Fundamentals of Writing a Financial Plan delivers a completely reimagined blueprint that shows aspiring financial planners exactly how to turn the CFP Board's 7-step planning process into a comprehensive, real-world financial plan for any individual or family.

The Fundamentals of Writing a Financial Plan, 3rd edition gives aspiring financial planners a completely reimagined roadmap for mastering the CFP Board's 7-step planning process from the ground up. Beyond covering the core building blocks—estate, tax, cash flow, education planning, and more—the book weaves in essential behavioral insights and communication techniques that separate good plans from great client relationships. Students see it all come together through the running case of the Hubble family, learning not just what goes into a plan, but how the plan writing process actually unfolds in practice.

The book backs up its approach with real substance: a thorough breakdown of the regulatory landscape planners must navigate, in-depth guidance on client communication and counseling, and analytical tools tailored chapter-by-chapter to evaluate real client data. Readers get a complete sample financial plan that shows exactly how analysis translates into recommendation, plus hands-on learning aids like an integrated Financial Planning Analysis Excel package, video examples of client interactions, step-by-step calculation instructions, and self-test questions throughout—giving future planners everything they need to build plans that work for any client circumstance.
