Louisiana, Mississippi Insurers Face Record Losses

The record total of homeowners' insurance claim payments that resulted from the 2005 hurricanes in the Gulf area is enough to wipe out all homeowners' premiums paid in Louisiana during the past 25 years, and enough to erase all homeowners' premiums paid in Mississippi during the past 17 years, according to the Insurance Information Institute.

IIHS: Most SUV Seat/Head Restraints Inadequate

Only six of the seat/head restraint combinations in 44 current model SUVs are rated good for protection against whiplash injuries in rear-end crashes, according to a recent study conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. None of the seat/head restraint designs in 15 pickup truck models earns a good rating.

IRC: One in Three California Auto Claims Fraudulent

According to a recent study by the Insurance Research Council, an estimated $319 and $432 million in bodily injury liability payments in California were attributable to claim fraud and buildup in 2002. That means almost one in three auto claims in the state contain some sort of fraud.

The company claims that these enhancements will enable companies to better estimate and track outside counsel expenses as well as generate cost projections for individual matters and law firms. It also allows the corporate legal and claim departments to monitor and control case costs.
