The biennial compliance deadline for complying with continuing education in South Carolina is May 1, of even numbered years. Anyone not completing 24 hours or paying the biennial recordkeeping fee to the Continuing Education Administrator by May 1, of even numbered years will have his or her license nonrenewed.

Licensed insurance agents who have completed the 40-hour prelicensing education course work must pay the annual Eight Dollars and Fifty Cents ($8.50) fee to the C. E. Administrator, or they will have their license nonrenewed.

Multi-line (property and casualty and life, accident and health) agents must complete twenty-four hours of CE credits. A minimum of eight (8) CE hours must be completed in each line of authority. Failure to comply will result in the license being nonrenewed.

Agents who hold an existing line of authority (P&C or LA&H) and successfully complete the prelicensing education course work in P&C or LA&H will be credited with eight (8) CE hours in that specific line of authority for the biennial period. Example: An agent with Property & Casualty authority who completes Life Accident and Health prelicensing will automatically receive 8 CE hours for Life, Accident and Health.

All licensed individuals with residence or mailing address changes must provide written notice to the Department within thirty days of such change. South Carolina Code Section 38-2-10 provides that administrative fines may be applied up to Two Thousand Five Hundred Dollars 2,500.00) for failure to comply.

An individual who arrives after the start of a C.E. class or leaves before the class is over will not receive credit for the continuing education classroom session, regardless of the number of hours completed during the class session
